Rules of Play
Rules will follow the current ASA rules except for the following:
- All players present at a game must be placed in the batting order. Players arriving after the game starts will be placed at the bottom of the order. The manager of the opposing team must be notified of batting order additions. If a player leaves during the game, skip over her. No penalty/out is recorded.
- There shall be free substitutions for all positions. Positions in the batting order is unaffected by the girls position on the field or on the bench. All players in the lineup are required to play a minimum of 3 innings in the field. If there are extenuating circumstances the manager must notify the other coach as soon as possible and notify the coach’s coordinator. If a player arrives late or leaves early she is not required to participate in the 3 inning rule. It is up to the managers to get the girls to play as much as possible.
- Games can be played with a minimum of eight (8) players. If the 9th position in the batting order is vacant, an out will be taken each time the position should have batted. If the game starts with nine or more players and the lineup becomes eight (8) players the vacant slot in the lineup will be an out. There is no penalty if the 10th or more player leaves that slot in the lineup. They will just be skipped.
- A game will be complete when the visiting team leads by ten (10) runs after 5 innings or the home team leads by 10 runs after 4 and a half innings. If the home team is losing by 10 runs in the 6th or 7th inning, the game is over. They do not get there last at bats.
- A complete game is when there have been 5 innings or more played. If
4 ½ innings are played and the home team is leading the game is
complete.
- If the game ends in a tie from the 5th inning on this will go into the standings as a tie.
- If the game is not a complete game the game will be reschedule pending field space. All innings pitched will count. The game will continue where left off.
- Playoffs
- Complete game rules will be followed in the playoffs except for the following
- If the game is a complete game and the game is tied the game will be rescheduled and will resume at the point of the suspension. The coaches will do their best to maintain the same lineup. If a player can not make the game her spot in the lineup will be skipped. If a new player shows up she will be placed at the end of the lineup.
- Games are limited to 1 hour and 45 minutes; a new inning cannot be started after that time
- Every Player must play a minimum of three (3) innings defensively if a team plays six (6) or more defensive innings. It is the coach’s responsibility to get players in to shortened games.
- No more than ten (10) defensive players are permitted to be on the field.
- The 10th defensive player commonly called a short fielder must play in the outfield and may not be used to cover a base or play in the infield.
- If a substitute runner is used for the catcher when there are two (2) outs, she must be last out (2nd) that was made in the inning.
- The maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a rolling two consecutive game cycles is 10 innings. It is the coach’s responsibility to keep track of the innings pitched by recording the innings in the score book. One (1) pitch thrown in an inning constitutes an inning pitched.
- Any player/coach/parent ejected from a game will serve a one (1) game suspension. The next scheduled game shall be the game that the suspended player/coach/parent will miss. There is no appeal for this suspension. If a player/coach/parent is ejected from a 2nd game; there will be a two (2) game suspension in the same manner outlined above. The player/coach/parent may not be on the premises, they must leave immediately or the game will be forfeited.
- All game bats must be ASA approved. Composite, multi-walled (double, triple) or 2 piece bats are NOT allowed. One piece aluminum bats only! (Wood bats are ok.) This is for the player’s safety.
- Face masks and chin straps are required per ASA rule changes. As soon as the infraction is discovered play will be stopped and the player will be required to wear a helmet with a chin strap and face mask.
- Intentional Walk – A batter must be pitched to for an intentional walk. The catcher must start behind the plate, in the catcher’s area prior to the pitch. She may move out of the batters area to receive the pitch after the pitch is released. It is up to the umpire to call the ball or strike.
- An umpire may not umpire in the league if they have a child participating in the league.
